The East Haddam Police and the Connecticut State Police, Troop K in Colchester report the following incidents:
DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF ALCOHOL AND/OR DRUGS - On Jan.1 at approximately 12:35 a.m., East Haddam Police observed a vehicle traveling along Town Street in East Haddam, being operated erratically. The officer initiated a motor-vehicle stop and stated that he could perceive the odor of alcoholic beverages and marijuana. Richard Anderson, 64, of Lakeview Street, East Hampton failed the standardized field-sobriety tests and was taken into custody. Anderson was later released on a $500 bond and scheduled to appear at Middletown Superior Court on 1/8/14.
MOTOR-VEHICLE VS GUARDRAILS - On Jan. 2 at approximately 6:48 a.m., Devin Birch, 22, of Harris Road Extension, Salem was traveling westbound on Route 82 (Norwich-Salem Road) in the area of Hopyard Road in East Haddam, operating a 2003 Volkswagen. Birch lost control of the vehicle and struck some metal-beam guardrails on the right shoulder of the roadway. No injuries were reported. Police issued Birch a written warning for making an improper turn.
MOTOR-VEHICLE VS GUARDRAILS - On Jan. 2 at approximately 2:33 p.m., Sean Flamming of Shepard Street, Old Saybrook was traveling westbound on Haywardville Road in East Haddam, just prior to Early Road, driving a 1997 Lexus ES3. Flamming lost control of the vehicle, striking some guardrails. No injuries were reported, but police issued Flamming a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions.
DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF ALCOHOL AND/OR DRUGS - On Jan. 4 at approximately 2:25 a.m., Kevin Kane, 22, of Stony Brook Drive, East Haddam was arrested and charged with the above violation. Kane was released on a $500 bond and given a court date of 1/15/14 at Middletown Superior Court.
CAR VS UTILITY POLE - On Jan. 4 at approximately 8:46 a.m., Heather Kwasowski, 17, of Mott Lane, Moodus was traveling westbound along East Haddam-Colchester Turnpike in East Haddam, operating a 2004 Chrysler Sebring. Police said Kwasowski's vehicle went off the roadway and struck a utility pole. No injuries were reported. Police issued Kwasowski a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions.
FAILURE TO DRIVE A REASONABLE DISTANCE APART - On Jan. 4 at approximately 10:14 a.m., Jessica Nickerson, 17, of Honey Hill Road, East Haddam was traveling northbound on Town Street (Route 151) in the area of Daniels Road in East Haddam, operating a 2007 Subaru Forester. Shannon Woodford, 35, of Kirtland Terrace, Chester was traveling in the same direction, ahead of Nickerson, driving a 2004 Toyota RAV-4. As Woodford stopped for a vehicle turning onto Daniels Road, Nickerson was unable to stop in time and rear-ended Woodford's vehicle. No injuries were reported, but police issued Nickerson a written warning for following too close.
BURGLARY AND LARCENY - On Jan. 6, East Haddam Police received a complaint from a Stony Brook Drive, East Haddam resident, stating that someone had entered their dwelling and removed (46) DVD's. The case is under investigation, and anyone with possible information is asked to contact Corporal Karl Karabienikoff at the East Haddam Resident Troopers' Office at 860-873-1226. FAILURE TO APPEAR IN COURT - On Jan. 7, Kecia Goodwin, 47, of Cove Road, Moodus was arrested, pursuant to a warrant, and charged with 2nd-degree failure to appear and failure to pay or plead. Goodwin was released on a $500 bond and scheduled to appear in Norwich Superior Court on 1/8/14.
An arrest or infraction does not indicate a conviction, and all individuals listed in these reports are considered innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
