School Bus Vs. Tree, Truck Vs. East Haddam Bridge, Burglary, Home Invasion, Trespassing, Vandalism, Criminal Mischief, Assault and Disorderly Conduct through 6-19-15


The East Haddam Police and the Connecticut State Police, Troop K in Colchester report the following incidents:


TRESPASSING, VANDALISM AND CRIMINAL MISCHIEF - On June 1 at approximately 9:26 a.m., East Haddam Police received a complaint from a contractor reporting interior damage to a vacant dwelling on Town Street. The case is under investigation, and anyone who may have seen anything suspicious is asked to contact Corporal Karl Karabienikoff at the East Haddam Resident Troopers' Office at 860-891-8201. FAILURE TO GRANT THE RIGHT-OF-WAY - On June 2 at approximately 6:03 p.m., Albert Hawkes, 19, of Rocky Ledge Drive, Clinton was stopped at the end of a driveway on Town Street in Moodus, operating a 2005 Ford Focus. Douglas Chapman, 51, of Old Hartford Road, Colchester was traveling southbound on Town Street, driving a 2012 Ford Fiesta, near the intersection of Joe Williams Road. Police said that as Chapman was approaching the private driveway, Hawkes began to pull out of the driveway, attempting to make a left turn, colliding with Chapman's vehicle. Upon impact, Hawkes' vehicle rotated in a clockwise manner, colliding with a mailbox. Chapman's vehicle's airbag deployed and he reportedly suffered minor injuries to his thumb and leg as a result of the accident. He was transported by East Haddam Ambulance to the Middlesex Medical Center in Marlborough for evaluation and treatment. Police found Hawkes to be at fault and issued him an infraction for Failure to Grant the Right-of-Way at a Private Driveway.

DISORDERLY CONDUCT - On June 11 at approximately 1:05 a.m., Jayme Ficara, 23, of Neptune Avenue, Moodus was arrested and charged with the above violation, as a result of a domestic disturbance. Ficara was released on a $500 bond and scheduled to appear at New London Superior Court on 6/11/15.


DISORDERLY CONDUCT - On June 11 at approximately 1:05 a.m., Dominique Gabree, 19, of Brindlewood Path, Colchester was arrested and charged with the above violation, as a result of a domestic disturbance. Gabree was released on a $500 bond and given a court date of 6/11/15 at New London Superior Court.

MOTOR-VEHICLE VS. TREE - On June 11 at approximately 9:44 a.m., Elizabeth Harvey, 31, of Benjamin Lane, East Haddam was traveling eastbound on Salem Road near the intersection of Haywardville Road in East Haddam, driving a 2006 Jeep Commande. Police said that Harvey's vehicle traveled off the right side of the roadway, subsequently striking a tree. Harvey reportedly sustained an injury to her arm and was transported by the East Haddam Ambulance to the Middlesex Medical Center in Marlborough for evaluation and treatment.

SCHOOL BUS VS. TREE - On June 12 at approximately 7:38 a.m., an East Haddam school bus impacted a tree on Clark Gates Road in Moodus. No injuries were reported by the operator of the bus or the children who were on the bus at the time. Amy Adams, 45, of Cherry Swamp Road, Moodus was issued a written warning for Unsafe Backing.

BURGLARY AND HOME INVASION - On June 13 at approximately 2:19 p.m., State Police responded to a Leesville Road, Moodus residence to investigate a report of a burglary that had occurred during the overnight hours. No injuries were reported, but police said that the victim was in the home at the time of the incident. ASSAULT AND DISORDERLY CONDUCT - On June 15 at approximately 10:57 p.m., State Troopers from Troop K were dispatched to a Woodmont Circle residence in East Haddam to investigate a domestic violence incident. Cindy Corcoran, 42, of Woodmont Circle was subsequently arrested and charged with 3rd-Degree Assault and Disorderly Conduct. Corcoran was released on a $1,500 bond and scheduled to appear at Middletown Superior Court on 6/16/15.

TRESPASSING, VANDALISM AND CRIMINAL MISCHIEF - On June 16 at approximately 12:15 p.m., East Haddam Police received a complaint from the property manager of the Johnsonville properties on Johnsonville Road in Moodus. Several buildings were entered and property was destroyed. DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF ALCOHOL AND/OR DRUGS AND FAILURE TO DRIVE UPON THE RIGHT - On June 16 at approximately 10:10 p.m., State Police initiated a motor-vehicle stop on Eli Chapman Road in Moodus. Robert Slack, 54, of Clearview Road, Moodus was subsequently arrested and charged with the above violations. Slack was later released on a $500 bond and given a court date of 6/29/15 at Middletown Superior Court.

TWO-VEHICLE COLLISION - On June 18 at approximately 5:34 p.m., Jonathan Hall, 25, of Sheepskin Hollow Road, East Haddam was traveling westbound on Sheepskin Hollow Road in the area of Mount Parnassus Road, driving a 1998 Toyota 4-Runner. Michael Kerr, 50, of Sheepskin Hollow Road was traveling eastbound, operating a 1997 Chevy K-1500 pick-up truck. Police said that as the vehicles passed each other on the crest of a hill, their driver's side mirrors collided. Police said that Hall sustained minor injuries and reportedly transported himself to Middlesex Hospital for treatment. Kerr did not complain of any injuries at the scene.

TRUCK VS. EAST HADDAM SWING BRIDGE - On June 19 at approximately 2:40 p.m., a red pick-up truck towing a horse trailer and traveling westbound on Main Street in East Haddam ran through the red light at the swing bridge, impacting the mechanical gate (swing-arm), proceeded across the bridge and evaded the scene. The bridge was unable to be opened for approximately two and a half hours until repairs could be made, according to the bridge attendant. Sexual Assault, Identity Theft, Burglary, Larceny, Unauthorized Debit Card Use, Breach of Peace and Criminal Mischief through 5-31-15


The East Haddam Police and the Connecticut State Police, Troop K in Colchester report the following incidents:

SEXUAL ASSAULT - On May 6 at approximately 1:30 p.m., Dillon Hibbert, 22, of Lakeshore Drive, East Haddam was arrested and charged with 2nd-Degree Sexual Assault, related to an incident that occurred on 4/4/15. Hibbert was released on a Written Promise to Appear and scheduled to appear at Middletown Superior Court on 5/27/15.

EVADING RESPONSIBILITY, OPERATING WITHOUT A LICENSE, OPERATING AN ALL-TERRAIN VEHICLE ON A ROADWAY AND TRAVELING TOO FAST FOR CONDITIONS - On May 7 at approximately 8:53 a.m., East Haddam Police were dispatched to a Falls Road residence for the report of a fence that had been impacted and damaged. Fenders from an all-terrain vehicle had been discovered at the scene. Police conducted an investigation and issued a juvenile summons for the above violations to a 16-year-old East Haddam resident believed to be the operator of the ATV at the time of the incident.

BREACH OF PEACE - On May 10 at approximately 8:00 p.m., Jayme Ficara, 23, of Neptune Avenue, Moodus was arrested and charged with the above violation. Ficara was released on a $500 bond and scheduled to appear at Norwich Superior Court on 5/21/15.

PROPERTY DAMAGE - On May 11 at approximately 11:09 a.m., the owner of Village Pizza, located on Falls Road in Moodus, reported damage to a fence that is located on the north side of the property. The incident is believed to have occurred on or about Wednesday, May 6th. PROPERTY DAMAGE - On May 11 at approximately 4:12 p.m., East Haddam Police received a complaint from an employee of the East Haddam Fish & Game Club. It was reported that (8) gates that are located on Geoffrey Road in East Haddam were damaged.  Anyone who may have information that could help police with this investigation is asked to contact Corporal Karl Karabienikoff at the East Haddam Resident Troopers' Office at 860-891-8201. BREACH OF PEACE, ASSAULT AND CRIMINAL MISCHIEF - On May 13 at approximately 9:46 p.m., Shane Lonergan, 30, of East Haddam-Colchester Turnpike, East Haddam was arrested and charged with Breach of Peace, 3rd-Degree Assault and 2nd-Degree Criminal Mischief. Lonergan was released on a $5,000 bond and given a court date of 5/26/15 at Middletown Superior Court.

FAILURE TO DRIVE A REASONABLE DISTANCE APART - On May 15 at approximately 8:26 a.m., Colchester Police were dispatched to a two-car crash at the intersection of Route 149 and Loomis Road in Colchester. John Muscarella, 53, of Middletown Road, Colchester (operating a 2004 Chevy Silverado pick-up truck) and Lynn McHugh, 60, of Acorn Drive, East Haddam (driving a 2012 Subaru Legacy) were involved, although no injuries were reported. Police found Muscarella to be at fault and issued an infraction for Failure to Drive a Reasonable Distance Apart.

IDENTITY THEFT - On May 18 at approximately 10:44 a.m., East Haddam Police received a report regarding a fraudulent tax return that had been submitted in the name of a Parker Road, East Haddam resident. The case is under investigation.

UNAUTHORIZED DEBIT CARD CHARGES - On May 20 at approximately 4:05 p.m., State Police from Troop K began an investigation after a customer mistakenly left a (tan) coach wallet in a grocery carriage at the Grist Mill Market on Falls Road in Moodus on Monday, May 18th at approximately 6:00 p.m. Unauthorized charges had reportedly been made on a debit card that had been inside the wallet. Police are asking anyone with possible information to call Troop K at 860-465-5400 and reference case # 1500-292522.

BURGLARY - On May 21 at sometime during the early morning hours, a home on Hopyard Road in East Haddam was illegally entered. The case is under investigation and police are asking anyone who may have witnessed anything suspicious to contact Corporal Karl Karabeinikoff at the East Haddam Resident Troopers' Office at 860-891-8201. LARCENY - On May 22 at approximately 3:41 p.m., a resident of Triangle Drive in Moodus reported the theft of a bongo drum and jewelry. LARCENY - On May 29 at approximately 2:02 p.m., East Haddam Police received a complaint from a contractor who had been working at a home on Neptune Avenue in Moodus, reporting items that were missing from the residence. The case remains under investigation.

BURGLARY AND LARCENY - On May 30 at approximately 2:20 p.m., State Police were dispatched to a home on Creek Row in East Haddam to investigate the theft of a chainsaw. The chainsaw has since been located, and police said that an arrest warrant for the suspect is pending.

DISORDERLY CONDUCT - On May 30 at approximately 3:18 p.m., Alexandra Ruiz, 22, of Stocking Lot Road, East Haddam was arrested and charged with the above violation. Ruiz was later released on a $500 bond and scheduled to appear at Middletown Superior Court on 6/1/15.
