A pond along Daniels Road in East Haddam ( part of Succor Brook, also known locally as "the beaver pond") was the scene of a motor-vehicle accident on September 1, 2014 that resulted in a car being submerged in the water. The driver was able to escape uninjured from the driver's-side window and swam to shore, according to police.
The East Haddam Police and the Connecticut State Police, Troop K in Colchester report the following incidents:
DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF ALCOHOL AND/OR DRUGS, FAILURE TO OBEY A STATE TRAFFIC CONTROL SIGNAL AND FAILURE TO APPEAR IN COURT - On Aug. 25 at approximately 7:37 p.m., police initiated a motor-vehicle stop on Route 149 and determined that the driver had a prior active arrest warrant pending. Douglas Wilson, 51, of Scenic View Drive, Deep River was arrested and charged with the above violations. Wilson was released on bonds totaling $1,000 and scheduled to appear at Norwich Superior Court on 8/26/14.
TRAVELING UNREASONABLY FAST - On Aug. 30 at approximately 1:35 a.m., Trevor Tuck, 26, of Haywardville Road, Colchester was traveling eastbound on Mount Parnassus Road in East Haddam in a 1993 Toyota pick-up truck. Police said that Tuck's vehicle left the roadway, struck a utility pole and rolled over. The truck came to a final rest in the travel portion of the roadway. No injuries were reported, but the truck was totaled and required towing. Police issued Tuck an infraction for Traveling Unreasonably Fast.
DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF ALCOHOL AND/OR DRUGS, OERATION OF A MOTOR-VEHICLE WHEN A LICENSE IS REFUSED/SUSPENDED OR REVOKED AND IMPROPER PARKING - On Aug. 31 at approximately 5:36 a.m., police said that a Good Samaritan stopped their vehicle on Route 149 in East Haddam, in front of another vehicle that was stopped facing the wrong way in traffic to protect the occupant. Police said that Ryan Fraser, 32, of Beach Road, Old Saybrook had been asleep at the wheel, and when he woke up, let his foot off of the brake which caused his vehicle to collide with the Good Samaritan's vehicle. Fraser was subsequently arrested and charged with the above violations. He was released on a $1,000 bond and given a court date of 9/17/14 at Middletown Superior Court.
MOTOR-VEHICLE INTO THE WATER - On Sept.1 at approximately 11:02 p.m., Eric Porter, Jr., 32, of Hebron was traveling eastbound along Daniels Road in East Haddam in a 2001 Audi S4 Sedan. Police said that an unknown vehicle, described as a Dodge Ram pick-up truck, swerved into Porter's path of travel, causing him to swerve to the right and enter the pond along Succor Brook. Although the vehicle was completely submerged, Porter was reportedly able to exit through the driver's side window and swim to shore, uninjured. The operator of the other vehicle evaded the scene. The case remains under investigation.

BURGLARY - On Sept. 4, East Haddam Police were dispatched to a North Moodus Road, Moodus residence to investigate a complaint of a screen door being pried open and unknown person(s) entering a porch area. FAILURE TO DRIVE UPON THE RIGHT - On Sept. 6 at approximately 9:35 p.m., Damon Jansky, 21, of Bruce Circle, Colchester was operating a 2003 Ford Ranger pick-up truck and was involved in a one-car crash on the westbound shoulder of Clark Gates Road in Moodus, according to State Police. No injuries were reported. Jansky was issued an infraction for Failure to Drive Upon the Right.
DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF ALCOHOL AND/OR DRUGS AND FAILURE TO DRIVE UPON THE RIGHT - On Sept. 8 at approximately 12:21 a.m., State Police observed a vehicle traveling southbound on Route 149 in Moodus and subsequently initiated a motor-vehicle stop on William F. Palmer Road. An investigation developed probable cause that Nicholas Fischlein, 28, of 22 William F. Palmer Road, Moodus was operating under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. Fischlein was arrested and charged with the above violations, then later released on a $1,000 bond. He was scheduled to appear at Middletown Superior Court on 9/23/14.
IMPROPER TURN - On Sept. 9 at approximately 10:04 p.m., police said that Zachary Brodeur, 25, of Taylor Road, Colchester was traveling southbound on Ackley Road in East Haddam, driving a 2006 Volkswagen JL2 in the area of Hall-Kilbourne Road. Brodeur reportedly then left the roadway, resulting in a collision. No injuries were reported. Police issued Brodeur an infraction for Making an Improper Right Turn.
VIOLATION OF PROBATION - On Sept. 11 at approximately 9:40 a.m., Donnie Valez, 25, of Bashan Road, East Haddam was taken into custody at his residence and charged for Violation of Probation, pursuant to an active warrant. Valez was transported to Troop K, processed and held on a $10,000 court-set bond, then transported to Middletown Superior Court on 9/12/14 for arraignment.
FAILURE TO APPEAR IN COURT - On Sept. 11 at approximately 11:36 a.m., Sean Barry, 24, of Town Street, Moodus turned himself in to Troop K for servicing of a warrant for (4) counts of Failure to Appear in Court. Barry was held on a $500 bond and scheduled to appear the next day at Middletown Superior Court.
