Motor-Vehicle Vs. Road Sign, Unsafe Backing, DUI, Speeding, Violation of Probation and Possession of Marijuana through 5-20-14


The East Haddam Police and the Connecticut State Police, Troop K in Colchester report the following incidents:

UNSAFE BACKING - On May 9 at approximately 7:56 a.m., Jill Atkinson, 39, of O'Connell Road, Colchester backed the 2011 Subaru Tribeca she was operating into a ditch on the side of the roadway, on Olmstead Road in East Haddam. Neither Atkinson nor the two minor children that were in the vehicle at the time were injured, but police issued a written warning for unsafe backing.

MAKING AN IMPROPER TURN - On May 9 at approximately 9:49 p.m., East Haddam Police responded to a reported one-car accident on Wickham Road in East Haddam. Upon arrival, police discovered that Jason Carroll, 34, of Boston Post Road, Waterford had failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway and had driven his 2005 Toyota 4-Runner into a ditch. No injuries were reported, but police issued Carroll a written warning for making an improper turn.

DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF ALCOHOL AND/OR DRUGS, FAILURE TO CARRY A LICENSE, SPEEDING AND POSSESSION OF LESS THAN 1/2 OUNCE OF MARIJUANA - On May 10 at approximately 10:58 p.m., East Haddam Police initiated a motor-vehicle stop for a Jeep Cherokee that had been speeding on Leesville Road in Moodus. Erin Crean, 18, of Lake Drive, East Hampton was arrested and charged with the above violations. Crean was later released on a $1,000 bond and scheduled to appear at Middletown Superior Court on 5/21/14.

VIOLATION OF PROBATION - On May 13 at approximately 12:30 p.m., Jonathan Morin, 32, of Elsmere Drive, Amston turned himself in for servicing of an active warrant for Violation Of Probation. Morin was later released on a $25,000 bond and given a court date of 5/27/14 at Middletown Superior Court.

MOTOR-VEHICLE VS. ROAD SIGN - On May 20 at approximately 3:18 p.m., a 17-year-old driver of Shanaghan Road, East Haddam was traveling along Mount Parnassus Road in East Haddam, operating a 1998 Volkswagen New Beetle. The driver reportedly attempted to avoid a deer in the roadway, striking a road sign. Police determined that the driver had been operating at a safe rate of speed at the time of the accident, and no infraction was issued. No injuries were reported, and the vehicle was able to be driven from the scene.

An arrest or infraction does not indicate a conviction, and all individuals listed in these reports are considered innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
