Close Call for Troopers & K-9 Partner, Risk of Injury to a Minor, Vandalism, Criminal Mischief, Disorderly Conduct, DUI and Failure to Drive a Reasonable Distance Apart through 8-30-15


The East Haddam Police and the Connecticut State Police, Troop K in Colchester report the following incidents:

FAILURE TO DRIVE A REASONABLE DISTANCE APART - On August 18 at approximately 3:59 p.m., John Howard, 52, of Haddam View Heights, Haddam was traveling eastbound on Route 82 (Norwich Road) in East Haddam, operating a 1998 Toyota Camry. Police said that as Howard was stopping his vehicle, attempting to make a left turn onto Boardman Road, he was struck from behind by William Ganley, 61, of Foxtown Cemetery Road, Colchester, who was driving a 2011 Ford F-250. Howard reportedly sustained minor injuries and was transported to the Middlesex Clinic by East Haddam Ambulance for evaluation and treatment. Police issued Ganley an infraction for the above violation.

VANDALISM AND CRIMINAL MISCHIEF - On August 20 at approximately 11:53 a.m., East Haddam Police received a complaint from a Wickham Road, East Haddam resident, stating that someone had thrown eggs at (and inside) of their mailbox on the evening of Wednesday, August 19. Anyone who may have seen anything suspicious or might have information that could help police with this investigation is asked to contact Corporal Karl Karabienikoff at the East Haddam Resident Troopers' Office at 860-873-8201. BREACH OF PEACE - On August 20 at approximately 8:51 p.m., David Seaquist, 23, of North Moodus Road, Moodus was located by police at his residence and charged with the above violation, based on an active warrant for his arrest. Seaquist was held on a $1,500 bond and scheduled to appear at Norwich Superior Court on 8/21/15.

VANDALISM AND CRIMINAL MISCHIEF - On August 25 at approximately 9:58 a.m., East Haddam Police were dispatched to Stocking Lot Road in Moodus to investigate a complaint of eggs and toilet paper being thrown at a house, which had occurred sometime during the evening hours of Sunday, August 23. The case is under investigation, and anyone with information  is asked to contact Corporal Karl Karabienikoff at the East Haddam Resident Troopers' Office at 860-873-8201. DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF ALCOHOL AND/OR DRUGS, FAILURE TO WEAR A SEAT-BELT AND FAILURE TO DRIVE UPON THE RIGHT - On August 25 at approximately 8:04 p.m., State Troopers Kristin Coit of Troop K and Matthew Weber & K-9 partner, Tazz of Troop F in Westbrook were involved in a K-9 track assignment on Neptune Avenue in Moodus. Police said that as a pick-up truck was leaving the driveway of the American Legion Hall, the vehicle almost struck the officers on the shoulder of the road. The Troopers subsequently stopped the truck and determined that the operator was intoxicated after he failed the Standardized Field Sobriety Tests. Christopher Downing, 59, of Town Street, Moodus was arrested and charged with the above violations. Downing was later released on a $500 bond and given a court date of 9/21/15 at Middletown Superior Court.

DISORDERLY CONDUCT, RISK OF INJURY TO A MINOR AND INTERFERING WITH AN EMERGENCY CALL - On August 30 at approximately 9:00 p.m., Eugene Harding, 41, of Leesville Road, Moodus was arrested and charged with the above violations. Harding was released on a $500 bond and scheduled to appear at Middletown Superior Court on 8/31/15.
