Possession of Drugs and Drug Paraphernalia, Illegal Sale of a Controlled Substance, Speeding, Larceny, MVA's and Failure to Appear in Court through 4-30-16


The East Haddam Police and the Connecticut State Police, Troop K in Colchester report the following incidents:

CAR VS. DEER - On April 19 at approximately 1:02 a.m., Lawrence Gabrielle, 25, of Sanford's Bridge Road, East Haddam was traveling southbound on Haywardville Road, just past Hopyard Road in East Haddam, driving a 2008 Honda Accord. Gabrielle informed police that a deer had run out in front of his vehicle, and when he swerved to avoid the animal, he collided with a utility pole. No injuries were reported.

LARCENY - On April 19 at approximately 7:14 a.m., East Haddam Police were advised that the Clinton Police Department had Alex Niver, 31, of Old Middletown Avenue, East Hampton in custody and would be transporting him to Middletown Superior Court to answer to charges for a previous arrest. East Haddam Police had an active warrant pending on Niver for 6th-Degree Larceny, and proceeded to the court for processing. Niver is being held on a $400 bond for this case and will appear next at Middletown Superior Court on 6/2/16.

POSSESSION AND SALE OF NARCOTICS AND POSSESSION OF DRUG PARAPHERNALIA - On April 21at approximately 1:57 p.m., East Haddam Police initiated a motor-vehicle stop on Route 149. After a subsequent investigation, police said they had discovered 95 packets and one plastic bag containing suspected heroin, a cellophane wrapper containing suspected crack cocaine and a crack pipe. The driver of the vehicle, Vanessa Cunningham, 29, of Joe Williams Road, Moodus was arrested and charged with Failure to Drive in the Established Lane, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Possession of a Controlled Substance: Narcotics and Illegal Sale of a Controlled Substance. A passenger in the vehicle, Nicole Romano, 26, of Joe Williams Road, Moodus was arrested and charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance: Narcotics. Both Cunningham and Romano were released on $10,000 bonds each and scheduled to appear at Middletown Superior Court on 5/3/16.

SPEEDING, OPERATING WITH A SUSPENDED LICENSE AND FAILURE TO APPEAR IN COURT - On April 22 at approximately 8:21 a.m., Douglas Wilson, 53, of Labella Circle, Middletown was pulled over by East Haddam Police on the East Haddam-Colchester Turnpike for the above violations. Wilson was transported to Troop K for processing and held on a $1,500 bond. He was unable to post bond and transported to Middletown Superior Court on the same day for arraignment.

MOTOR-VEHICLE VS. GUARDRAILS - On April 23 at approximately 8:12 a.m., a 16-year-old driver was traveling westbound on Mount Parnassus Road in the area of Warner Road in East Haddam, operating a 2005 Ford Focus. Police said that the driver lost control of her vehicle, crossed over the eastbound lane and struck some metal-beam guardrails. No injuries were reported. Police issued the 16-year-old a written warning for Traveling Too Fast For Conditions.

ILLEGAL SALE OF A CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE - On April 25 at approximately 2:36 p.m., East Haddam Police pulled a Dodge Durango over on Wigwam Road in Moodus.  Police said that a subsequent search of the SUV led to the discovery of marijuana and cocaine inside the vehicle. Laurie Rogers, 50, of Joe Williams Road, Moodus was arrested and charged with Possession of Cocaine with Intent to Sell, Possession of Less Than 1/2 Ounce of Marijuana and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Rogers was released on a $500 bond and given a court date of 5/10/16 at Middletown Superior Court.

OPERATING AN UNREGISTERED MOTOR-VEHICLE, OPERATING WITHOUT INSURANCE AND FAILURE TO COMPLY WITH EMISSIONS INSPECTIONS - On April 26 at approximately 9:48 p.m., Brandon Pearson, 27, of Leesville Road, Moodus was pulled over by East Haddam Police on Johnsonville Road in Moodus and charged with the above violations. Pearson was released on a  $140 bond and scheduled to appear at Middletown Superior Court on 5/13/16.

BOAT VS. MOTOR-VEHICLE - On April 30 at approximately 2:44 p.m., Vincent Ruff, 51, of Enfield Street, Hartford was traveling westbound on the East Haddam-Colchester Turnpike in East Haddam, operating a 1997 Ford F-150.  Robert Krutz, 70, of Falls Road, Moodus was traveling behind Ruff's vehicle, driving a 2002 Dodge Stratus. Police said that Ruff had stopped when he missed a left turn onto Bashan Road, and had started to back up. As Krutz had pulled to a stop, a boat that was being transported on the back of Ruff's pick-up truck struck the front end of his car. No injuries were reported, but Ruff was issued a written warning for Unsafe Backing.
