The East Haddam Police and the Connecticut State Police, Troop K in Colchester report the following incidents:
CRIMINAL MISCHIEF - On Jan. 3 at approximately 9:00 a.m., East Haddam Police were dispatched to a South Main Street, Colchester residence and were able to locate Virginia Martin, 47, of the same address for warrant servicing. Police had an active warrant in place for Martin, for 2nd-Degree Criminal Mischief, stemming from an incident on Geoffrey Road in East Haddam on 11/19/15. She was arrested and transported to Troop K according to standard booking procedures. Martin was later released on a $500 bond and given a court date of 1/26/16 at Middletown Superior Court.
SUSPICIOUS INCIDENT - On Jan. 5 at approximately 12:24 p.m., East Haddam Police were dispatched to a Town Street, East Haddam residence to investigate a complaint. According to the homeowner, a Caucasian male, believed to be in his fifties, bald and with no facial hair attempted to gain entry to the home through an unlocked main entrance door.He had been described as wearing green coveralls.Police said that a dog inside the house immediately responded to the door, which caused the man to exit the area.The vehicle has been described as an older white pick-up truck with a flat cap. DISORDERLY CONDUCT - On Jan. 5 at approximately 11:24 p.m., state police were dispatched to a Maple Avenue, East Haddam residence for a report of an active domestic disturbance. The alleged victim was observed with a ripped shirt. During an interview with police, both the victim and the accused acknowledged a verbal and physical altercation. A witness's statement and on-scene evidence led to the arrest of James Murphy, 18, of Maple Avenue, East Haddam for the above violation. Murphy was later released on a $500 bond and scheduled to appear at Middletown Superior Court on 1/6/16.
SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY - During the week of January 4th through January 8th the East Haddam Police have received several calls of a suspicious pick up truck pulling into residential driveways and when confronted by the homeowner they claim to be delivery men looking for a certain address. The occupants have been described a being two white males in their 20's. The East Haddam Police are asking residents to call the police with any similar incidents. MAKING AN IMPROPER TURN - On Jan. 10 at approximately 11:43 p.m., Deborah Wilson, 54, of Neptune Avenue, Moodus was traveling northbound on Route 149 (Westchester Road) in Colchester, just north of Starr Road, operating a 2008 Honda Civic. Wilson reportedly lost control of her vehicle and struck several trees along the southbound shoulder of the roadway. No injuries were reported, but police believe wet road conditions were a contributing factor for this accident. Wilson was issued a written warning for Making an Improper Turn.
ASSAULT - On Jan. 12 at approximately 2:01 p.m., Tyrone Hall, of Schulman-Veselak Road, East Haddam was arrested and charged with 3rd-Degree Assault. Police said that he had punched an individual in the face. Hall was released on a Written Promise to Appear and given a court date of 1/13/16 at Middletown Superior Court.
MOTOR-VEHICLE VS. TREE - On Jan. 12 at approximately 11:16 p.m., Andrew Ventres, 18, of Westwood Drive, Moodus was traveling northbound on Old Salem Road in the area of Haywardville Road, operating a 2006 Ford Focus. Police said that Ventres slid off the snow-covered roadway while trying to negotiate a curve, striking a tree that was located off of the left-hand shoulder. No injuries were reported.
DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF ALCOHOL AND/OR DRUGS AND FAILURE TO DRIVE UPON THE RIGHT - On Jan. 15 at approximately 11:35 p.m., Danielle Saunders, 18, of Johnsonville Road, Moodus was arrested and charged with the above violations after being involved in a motor-vehicle accident on Westchester Road (Route 149) in the area of Starr Road in Colchester. Police said that Saunders, who was driving a 1999 Chevy Cavalier, collided with several trees on the right-hand shoulder of the roadway, and that area of Route 149 had to be closed for some time. Saunders was transported to Hartford Hospital for evaluation and treatment of injuries sustained in the accident. Saunders was arrested and charged with the above violations. She was issued a $500 bond and given a court date of 2/2/16 at Norwich Superior Court.
FAILURE TO DRIVE UPON THE RIGHT - On Jan. 17 at approximately 7:43 p.m., a 17-year-old driver of the East Haddam-Colchester Turnpike was traveling northbound on O'Connell Road in East Haddam, operating a 2006 Honda Pilot. Police said that the driver veered to the left on the snow-covered roadway and struck a utility support pole. No injuries were reported, but the female was issued a verbal warning for the above violation.
MOTOR-VEHICLE VS. ROCK WALL - On Jan. 22 at approximately 10:15 a.m., Savannah Height, 18, of Neptune Avenue, Moodus was traveling eastbound on Mill Road in East Haddam in the area of Clark Hill Road. Police said that Height had attempted to negotiate a slight left curve in the roadway, when she drifted onto the right-hand shoulder, attempted to turn back towards the left, traveled across the road and struck a rock wall. No injuries were reported.
FAILURE TO GRANT THE RIGHT-OF-WAY - On Jan. 22 at approximately 5:17 p.m., Kathleen Reynolds, 67, of Falls-Bashan Road, Moodus was traveling along Route 151 (Town Street) in the area of Orchard Road in East Haddam, operating a 2008 Toyota Corolla. Police said that Jennifer Serra, 47, of Alger Road, East Haddam, driving a 2009 Kia Sorento, pulled out onto the roadway from Orchard Road, striking Reynold's vehicle. No injuries were reported, but Serra was issued a written warning for Failure to Grant the Right-of-Way at an Intersection.
FAILURE TO GRANT THE RIGHT-OF-WAY AND FAILURE TO CARRY INSURANCE - On Jan. 23 at approximately 2:15 p.m., Liam Poirier, 38, of Route 81, Killingworth was traveling northbound on Town Street in Moodus in the area of Wigwam Road, operating a 2000 Subaru Legacy. Police said that Ralph Parady, 62, of Hilltop Road, East Haddam slid out of a snow-covered residential driveway and struck Poirier's vehicle with his 2017 Dodge Ram. Poirier was transported to the hospital by East Haddam EMS for evaluation and treatment for complaints of shoulder and side pain. Parady was issued an infraction for Failure to Grant the Right-of-Way at a Private Driveway and Failure to Carry Insurance.
MOTOR-VEHICLE VS. UTILITY POLE - On Jan 23 at approximately 2:31 p.m., Daniel Kisluk, 26, of Oak Street, Southington was traveling westbound on Route 82 (Norwich Road) in a 2005 GMC Sierra. As he was descending a hill and attempting to slow down, police said that he lost control of his vehicle on the snow-covered roadway and struck a utility pole. No injuries were reported.
MOTOR-VEHICLE VS. TREE - On Jan. 24 at approximately 12:02 p.m., Michael Wallace, 53, of Eastern Drive, Wethersfield was traveling eastbound on Mount Parnassus Road in East Haddam in the area of Smith Road, operating a 2004 Hyundai XG-350. Police said that Wallace traveled off the right-hand side of the roadway and struck a tree. No injuries were reported, but Wallace was issued a written warning for Traveling Too Fast for Conditions.
TWO-CAR COLLISION - On Jan. 25 at approximately 6:41 p.m., Julian Smeeth-Serrano, 20, of Olney Road, Wethersfield was traveling southbound on Town Street in East Haddam in the area of Daniels Road, operating a 2007 Ford Focus. Police said that Smeeth-Serrano veered out of his travel lane and into the right-hand shoulder, due to an icy patch in the roadway. William Gerrish, 49, of Clark Hill Road, East Haddam was traveling behind Smeeth-Serrano, operating a 2008 Hyundai Elantra. Police said that Gerrish was unable to react in time, lost control of his vehicle and struck Smeeth-Serrano in the driver's side door. Both vehicles had to be towed from the scene. Smeeth-Serrano refused EMS treatment on the scene. Gerrish was transported to Middlesex Hospital by East Haddam EMS for minor injuries.
RISK OF INJURY TO A MINOR AND IMPAIRING THE MORALS OF CHILDREN - On Jan. 26 at approximately 8:06 a.m., Sally Vause, 33, of Tamarac Drive, Madison turned herself in to Troop K on an active warrant. Vause was arrested and charged with Risk of Injury to a Child and Impairing the Morals of Children/Child Selling, related to a previous incident on the East Haddam-Colchester Turnpike in East Haddam. Vause was later released on a $1,500 bond and scheduled to appear at Middletown Superior Court on 2/9/16.
LARCENY FROM A MOTOR-VEHICLE - On Jan. 27 at approximately 8:04 a.m., East Haddam police were called to investigate a theft of a wallet from a vehicle. The victim stated that someone entered his vehicle while it was parked in his driveway. MOTOR-VEHICLE ACCIDENT - On Jan. 28 at approximately 4:39 p.m., Susan LeDuc, 46, of Clark Gates Road, Moodus, operating a 2011 Hyundai Sante Fe and Scott Civardi, 35, of Ventura Drive, Colchester, operating a Dodge Ram 5500, owned by Eversource Energy were both traveling southbound on North Moodus Road in Moodus. Police said that as Civardi had started to make a right-hand turn into a driveway on North Moodus Road, he drove into the oncoming lane of traffic as he approached a turn and collided into LeDuc's vehicle. No injuries were reported.
DISORDERLY CONDUCT - On Jan. 28 at approximately 4:03 a.m., state police responded to an Augusta Circle, Moodus residence in response to a complaint of a dispute between a mother and son. Police said that the son had punched holes into numerous doors and had struck a cabinet mirror with a baseball bat, shattering it. James Jones, 18, of Augusta Circle, Moodus was placed under arrest and charged with Disorderly Conduct. He was held on a $500 bond and transported to Middletown Superior Court in Middletown to appear on the same day.
CAR VS. TREE - On Jan. 29 at approximately 9:21 p.m., Ketevan Kuprashvill, 57, of Tater Hill Road, East Haddam was operating a 2014 Volkswagen Passat and had been trying to negotiate a curve in the roadway from Petticoat Lane while turning onto Mill Road in East Haddam. Police said that he lost control of the vehicle and traveled off the right-hand shoulder, striking a tree. No injuries were reported.
