Credit Card Theft, Burglary, Larceny, Motor-Vehicle Vs. Guardrails and Criminal Mischief through 2-17-16

The East Haddam Police and the Connecticut State Police, Troop K in Colchester report the following incidents:

FAILURE TO DRIVE A REASONABLE DISTANCE APART AND OPERATING WITHOUT INSURANCE- On Feb. 1 at approximately 6:46 p.m., Tim Strong, 18, of Dickinson Road, Colchester was traveling eastbound on Falls Road in Moodus, driving a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee. While stopped and waiting to turn left onto North Moodus Road, Strong's vehicle was struck from behind by a 17-year-old female driver who was operating a 2012 Chevy Cruz. Both drivers were transported by East Haddam EMS to the Marlborough Clinic for evaluation and treatment of injuries. Police issued the 17-year-old driver a misdemeanor summons for Following Too Closely and Operating Without Insurance. She was released on a Written Promise to Appear and scheduled to appear at Middletown Superior Court on 2/11/16.

BURGLARY - On Feb. 2 at approximately 11:01 a.m., East Haddam police were dispatched to a Petticoat Lane, East Haddam residence. The victim reported that his storage barn had been entered, but was unsure if anything was missing. MOTOR-VEHICLE VS. UTILITY POLE & WIRES - On Feb. 5, sometime prior to 8:35 a.m., an unknown vehicle had impacted a utility pole on Landing Hill Road in East Haddam. Police said that the pole had split and fallen into the roadway. Priscilla Hoover, 54, of Bashan Road, East Haddam was traveling along Landing Hill Road, driving a 2012 Ford Escape, and was unable to avoid the debris in the roadway. Police said that she ran over the pole and wires and became stuck. Eversource Energy responded to the scene to temporarily cut off power to the area. The vehicle was removed from the scene, and no injuries were reported.

BURGLARY - On Feb. 6 at approximately 12:23 p.m., state police were dispatched to a Lookout Drive, East Haddam address for the report of a burglary. The case is under investigation.

DRIVING UNDER TE INFLUENCE OF ALCOHOL AND/OR DRUGS, OPERATING AN UNREGISTERED MOTOR-VEHICLE AND FAILURE TO DRIVE UPON THE RIGHT - On Feb. 6 at approximately 11:35 p.m., Larry Sims, 62, of Smith Road, East Haddam was arrested and charged with the above violations. Sims was issued a $500 bond and given a court date of 2/6/16 at Middletown Superior Court.

MOTOR-VEHICLE ROLLOVER - On Feb. 8 at approximately 8:15 a.m., East Haddam police were dispatched to investigate an over-turned vehicle on Palmer-Martin Road in East Haddam. Laurie Miller, 46, of Palmer-Martin Road was issued a verbal warning for Traveling Too Fast for Conditions. No injuries were reported.

BURGLARY, LARCENY AND CRIMINAL MISCHIEF - On Feb. 8 at approximately 6:38 p.m., East Haddam police were dispatched to a Johnsonville Road address to investigate an incident that took place sometime during the daytime hours on the same day. Police are asking anyone who may have seen anything suspicious or might have any information related to this case to contact Officer Russell Gingras at the East Haddam Resident Troopers' Office at 860-891-8204. ILLEGAL OPERATION OF A VEHICLE - On Feb. 9 at approximately 12:17 p.m., East Haddam police were contacted to investigate an incident of an all-terrain vehicle being operated on some land belonging to the town, in the area of Baker Lane in East Haddam, despite signs being posted prohibiting the use of any motorized vehicles on the property. The case is under investigation, and anyone with information is asked to contact Corporal Karl Karabienikoff at the East Haddam Resident Troopers' Office at 860-891-8201. TRAVELING TOO FAST FOR CONDITIONS - On Feb. 10 at approximately 9:21 a.m., Jennifer Ghiroli, 28, of Geoffrey Road, East Haddam was traveling westbound on Route 156, just east of Route 82 in East Haddam, operating a 2000 Chevy Silverado. Police said Ghiroli's vehicle went off of the roadway, striking a state traffic control sign. No injuries were reported, but police issued Ghiroli a written warning for the above violation.

FAILURE TO DRIVE A REASONABLE DISTANCE APART AND TRAVELING TOO FAST FOR CONDITIONS - On Feb. 15 at approximately 5:22 p.m., Kathryn Parker, 48, of Ridge Road, East Haddam was traveling southbound on Town Street in East Haddam, operating a 2013 Volvo XC-70. Police said that as she slowed down in an attempt to turn left onto Old Kentwood Road, she was struck from behind by a 2006 Acura TSX that was being driven by Joann Johnson, 59, of Cindy Lane in Mystic. No injuries were reported, but police issued Johnson a written warning for the above violations.

CREDIT CARD THEFT - On Feb. 16 at approximately 5:20 p.m., Juan Figlewski, 28, of Wallingford Road, Durham turned himself in to Troop K based on an active warrant for his arrest. Figlewski was charged with 3rd-Degree Larceny, (10) counts of Credit Card Theft and (13) counts of Illegal Use of a Credit Card, related to an incident that had taken place at a Ballahack Road #1 address. Figlewski was released on a $500 bond and scheduled to appear at Middletown Superior Court on 3/1/16.

MOTOR-VEHICLE VS. GUARDRAILS - On Feb. 17 at approximately 7:43 a.m., Michael Chwatek, 68, of Lake Shore Drive, Colchester was traveling northbound on Lake Shore Drive in the East Haddam area, operating a 2007 Dodge Dakota. Police said that Chwatek lost control of the truck on a section of low-lying water in the roadway that was partially frozen, striking the metal beam guardrails on the left shoulder. No injuries were reported.
