DUI & Sobriety Checkpoint, Illegal Possession of a Weapon in a Motor-Vehicle, Breach of Peace, Threatening, Stolen Kayak and Leaf Blower and Truck vs. Overhead Wires through 4-22-13


The following information was provided by the East Haddam Police and the Connecticut State Police, Troop K in Colchester:

FAILURE TO DRIVE A REASONABLE DISTANCE APART - On April 17 at approximately 3:52 p.m., Nicholas Wallick III, 58, of Burrows Hill Road, Amston was traveling northbound on Falls Road (Route 149) in the area of North Moodus Road in Moodus, driving a 2003 Chevy K-1500 pick-up truck. James Garent, 22, of Mill Hill Road, Colchester was traveling directly behind Wallick, operating a 2002 Toyota Camry. As Wallick attempted to stop for a vehicle that was making a left-hand turn in front of him, Gerent was unable to stop in time, resulting in a rear-end collision. No injuries were reported. Gerent was issued a written warning for following too closely.

REPORTED NARCOTICS - On April 17, East Haddam Police were dispatched to My Father's House on North Moodus Road in Moodus, to investigate a complaint that heroin had allegedly been found in one of the cottages on the premises. The case is under investigation.

MOTOR-VEHICLE vs TREE - On April 17 at approximately 4:38 p.m., Robert Fedus, Jr., 23, of Cato Corner Road, Colchester was traveling southbound on Hopyard Road in the area of Mitchell Road in East Haddam, driving a 2006 Subaru Impreza. Police said that Fedus crossed over the northbound lane of travel and subsequently struck a tree off the left-hand side of the roadway. Fedus was transported to the Marlborough Emergency Clinic by members of the East Haddam Volunteer Fire Department for evaluation and treatment of a head injury. Police issued Fedus an infraction for failure to drive upon the right.

TRUCK vs OVERHEAD WIRES - On April 17 at approximately 5:24 p.m., Rudolph Dill, 56, of Joe Williams Road, Moodus was traveling westbound on East Haddam-Colchester Turnpike in East Haddam, operating a 1994 Kenworth Conventional T-800 and transporting a load of brush. Dill's vehicle struck some cable and telephone wires that were hanging across the roadway, a few tenths of a mile east of the intersection of Falls Bashan Road. No injuries were reported.

BURGLARY - On April 18 at approximately 7:08 a.m., police were called to My Father's House on North Moodus Road in Moodus, after an employee reported that one of the cottages on the grounds had been broken into the night before. The case is under investigation.

MOTOR-VEHICLE vs. GUARDRAILS AND UTILITY POLE - On April 18 at approximately 9:37 p.m., Dominic St. John. 48, of Smith Road, East Haddam was traveling southbound on Falls Road (Route 149) in the area of Trowbridge Road, driving a 1988 Toyota Celica. St. John lost control of his vehicle as he was attempting to negotiate a curve, proceeded across the northbound lane of travel and struck metal-beam guardrails, as well as a utility pole. He was transported to the Marlborough Emergency Clinic for evaluation and treatment of a head laceration. Police issued St. John a written warning for failure to drive upon the right.

LARCENY - On April 18 at 10:30 a.m., Antone Onofrio, 22, of Clark Hill Road, East Haddam was arrested while at court, pursuant to a warrant stemming from a theft that occurred in August of 2012, and charged with 4th-degree larceny. Onofrio was held on a $25,000 bond and scheduled to face this charge at Middletown Superior Court on the same day.

BREACH OF PEACE, THREATENING AND ILLEGAL POSSESSION OF A WEAPON IN A MOTOR-VEHICLE IN A STATE PARK - On April 20 at approximately 9:00 a.m., Department of Environmental Conservation Police arrested Joseph Anselmo, 49, of Lake Drive, Oakdale and charged him with the above violations at Devil's Hopyard State Park in East Haddam. Anselmo was processed at Troop K and later released on a $1,000 bond. He was given a court date of 5/7/13 at Middletown Superior Court.

DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF ALCOHOL AND/OR DRUGS - On April 20 at approximately 7:47 p.m., Bernard Muldoon, 45, of Birch Road, Moodus was traveling along Route 149 in Moodus, when he turned around prior to an unannounced Connecticut State Police DUI & Sobriety Checkpoint that was staged on Route 149 in Moodus. Muldoon was later stopped by police, and subsequently failed the standardized field-sobriety tests. He was arrested and charged with DUI, then later released on a $500 bond. Muldoon was scheduled to appear at Middletown Superior Court on 5/1/13.

DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF ALCOHOL AND/OR DRUGS AND RISK OF INJURY TO A MINOR - On April 20 at approximately 9:50 p.m., Megan Clark, 29, of Knoll Road, Moodus entered an unannounced Connecticut State Police DUI & Sobriety Checkpoint being conducted on Route 149 in Moodus. Clark subsequently failed the standardized field-sobriety tests administered by police and was charged with DUI. Clark was additionally charged with risk of injury to a minor, as her daughter, a minor child, was also present in the vehicle. Clark was processed and later released on a $1,000 bond and given a court date of 5/1/13 at Middletown Superior Court.

DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF ALCOHOL AND/OR DRUGS - On April 20 at approximately 10:10 p.m., Bridget Merrill, 39, of Usher Swamp Road, Colchester was stopped at an unannounced Connecticut State Police DUI & Sobriety Checkpoint that was staged on Route 149 in Moodus. Merrill subsequently failed the standardized field-sobriety tests administered by police and was charged with DUI. Merrill was processed and later released on a $500 bond and scheduled to appear at Middletown Superior Court on 5/8/13.

DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF ALCOHOL AND/OR DRUGS - On April 20 at approximately 11:10 p.m., Michael Rossi, 20, of Landing Hill Road, East Haddam was arrested in Marlborough and charged with DUI, failure to drive in the established lane and failure to carry a registration and/or insurance card. Rossi was processed at Troop K and later released on a $500 bond. He was given a court date of 5/6/13 at Manchester Superior Court.

LARCENY: STOLEN KAYAK - On April 21 at 2:30 p.m., a Triangle Drive, Moodus resident reported that their kayak had been taken from their shoreline property, located on the lower Moodus Reservoir. It was last seen on April 20 at approximately 12:00 noon. The "Looksha" kayak is described as being 12-feet long and blue in color, with an approximate value of $1,000. Anyone who may have information that could help police with this investigation is asked to contact Officer Mark Creighton at the East Haddam Resident Troopers' Office at 860-873-1226. LARCENY: STOLEN LEAF-BLOWER - On April 22 at 10:45 a.m., a resident of Falls Road (Route 149) in Moodus reported that their Stihl leaf-blower had been stolen from their yard. Anyone who may have seen anything suspicious or might have information about this incident is asked to contact Corporal Karl Karabeinikoff at the East Haddam Resident Troopers' Office at 860-873-1226.
