BURGLARY & LARCENY - On March 6 at 9:30 a.m., Coty Rugar, 25, of Brooke Hill Road, East Haddam was arrested based on an active warrant and charged with 3rd-degree burglary and 3rd-degree larceny. The warrant stemmed from a burglary that took place on Westchester Road in Colchester on August 12, 2009. Blood samples had originally been collected from the scene as evidence and subsequent DNA testing reportedly matched samples collected from the accused, according to police. Rugar was held on a $50,000 bond and presented at Norwich Superior Court in Norwich on the same day.
COMMERCIAL BURGLARY - Sometime during the overnight hours between March 6th and 7th, police report that the veterinary hospital on Town Street in East Haddam had been burglarized. COMMERCIAL BURGLARY - On March 7, police were dispatched to a hair and nail salon on Town Street in East Haddam to investigate a burglary that had occurred during the overnight hours. The perpetrator(s) had forced entry into the building, and police believe that they were attempting to steal money. MOTOR-VEHICLE VS. TREE - On March 7 at approximately 9:50 p.m., Michael Gambardella, 24, of Bower Road, Madison was traveling along Haywardville Road in the area of Hungerford Road in East Haddam, driving a 2009 Ford E-250 pick-up truck. Police said that Gambardella struck a tree, rendering his vehicle inoperable. No injuries were reported, but the truck had to be towed from the scene. Gambardella was issued a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions.
MOTOR-VEHICLE VS. UTILITY POLE - On March 8 at approximately 8:04 a.m., Michele Lapila, 47, of Stocking Lot Road, East Haddam struck a utility pole at the intersection of Norwich Road (Route 82) and Hem Street in East Haddam, with a 2006 GMC Envoy. No injuries were reported, but the vehicle had to be towed from the scene due to front-end damage. Lapila was issued a written warning for making an improper turn.
DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF ALCOHOL AND/OR DRUGS - On March 9 at approximately 2:02 a.m., police observed a vehicle being operated erratically and initiated a motor-vehicle stop. After failing standardized field sobriety tests, Nicole Claps, 23, of Landing Hill Road, East Haddam was arrested and charged with DUI and failure to drive in the established lane. Claps was later released on a $500 bond and given a court date of 3/9/13 at Manchester Superior Court in Manchester.
CRIMINAL MISCHIEF - On March 9, George Corey, Jr., 60, of Ackley Cemetery Road, East Haddam was arrested and charged with the above violation. Corey was released on a $500 bond and scheduled to appear at Middlesex Superior Court in Middletown on 3/19/13.
